Ranking lists Triahtlon Olympic and Sprint

The Triathlon with the three disciplines swimming – cycling – running enjoys worldwide increasing popularity as a test of stamina. A choice of two Triathlons of different lengths will be offered for the first time within the EuroGames: the Sprint distance and the Olympic distance. Not only women and men triathletes with competition experience, but also those who want to try out this fascinating sport for the first time, can find a challenge here. Those who do not want to take on all three disciplines can share the Triathlon with other participants and register as a team.

Both Triathlons will take place on Saturday 31st July 2004 at the Olympic Regatta Course, only 15 km from the center of Munich. The Regatta Course with the biggest spectator stands in the world will be a worthwhile destination for onlookers as well, as the EuroGames rowing regatta will also take place here on the Friday and Saturday.

During the games the course will be connected by a shuttle service to the local train networks (U- and S-Bahn). The accommodation facilities at the Regatta Course with 120 beds are reserved for the participants of the EuroGames and can be booked online.

Registration for triathlon ends on 15th of June.

BIDDING

Greetings on the occasion of the EuroGames

I´m very much delighted, that this year the EuroGames 2004 take place in Munich.

I´m sure that this great sports meeting will join the tradition of former famous sport events in our Bavarian Capital City – starting with the Olympic Games in 1972 – and thereby will be characterised by openness and friendship.

Especially the triathlets, who are so enthusiasticly addicted to their sports, consider themselves as one big family, that often meets at one of the meanwhile numerous competitions.

The EuroGames additionally offer the opportunity to try other sports and make new friends there.

Regarding all this, we should not forget and honor the great personal commitment of the various persons, who dedicated their spare time to make this competition possible. Therefore I admire the joy and the commitment in which the organizers and helpers fulfil their task. I wish that the Eurogames will become a great success and will become a positive pattern in the memories of the athletes, the audience and of course the organizers and the helpers.

Wolfgang Klinger
Chairman of the district Oberbayern of the Bavarian Triathlon Association

Organisation

Organiser: EuroGames e.V.
Event Organiser: EuroGames e.V.
Bidding no. of the BTU: 2004-11-015
Direction: Christian Felix, Jürgen Schramm
Judges: the direction behoves the judges
Arbitration board: will be announced on the day of competition

General information

The Organiser and the Event Organiser explicitly reserve to themselves changes in the bidding. For that, please refer to our triathlon website. Race information will be sent to you by email three weeks before the competition and additional information given at the race briefing before the competition start. The event will be carried out by the regulations of the DTU, the German Triathlon Organisation. Escort vehicles are not allowed. The contracted insurances exclude all mutual liability of the competitors. The racetrack is only partly closed off. Every competitor is required to pay regard to the road traffic regulations.

During the cycle race the competitor must wear the starting number on their back and during the run on the front. While biking an approved helmet is mandatory. The bike has to be walked from the transition area to the cycle track. Cycle riding in the transition area is not permitted. The organiser will monitor that all competitors observe the rules on parts of the course.

Any ruling over a potential disqualification is the judges final decision. Instructions from doctors, helpers and guards are to be followed. Disregarding instructions will result in disqualification. The organiser reserves the right to change the race track on short notice.

Triathlon is an open-air event. It is possible that bad weather conditions could cause problems on the day. At water temperature below 17° centigrade the swim distance will be shortened. Above 23° centigrade a neoprene swim suite (wetsuit) is not permitted. In the event of stormy and/or rainy weather or hail (wind force seven or above) the competition will not take place.

All competitors are required to bring three lockable weather resistant bags for their clothing.

Transport connection

Between the underground station Feldmoching and the Olympia Regatta Sports Facilities a bus shuttle service will be arranged. The suburban train S1 connects downtown Munich with the airport. The underground train U2 and the suburban train S1 takes 15 minutes from Central Station to the underground station Feldmoching. The underground runs every ten minutes, the suburban train every 20 minutes.

Olympia Regatta Sports Facilities are easily accessible by car. They are located 300 meters from the A92 motorway exit Oberschleißheim. See also the information on Traffic at the Homepage of the "Olympia Regatta Verein München".

Alternatively one can reach the course by using a 3 km long footpath from the station Oberschleißheim on the S-Bahn.

Recommendations

We recommend bringing a Neopren wetsuit, as the temperature at the Regatta Course can be cool even in the middle of summer. The cycle must be in a road-worthy condition, and it is compulsory to wear a cycling helmet during the race. We request the participants to bring three bags or rucksacks in which the respective clothing for swimming, cycling and running can be stored.

Spectators information

From the tribune the event can be viewed very well. The swim and cycle track are right in the perspective of the spectators there. The Tribune at the Olympia Regatta Course is one of the biggest of its kind worldwide.

Registration at the site – handing out the competition manuals

All competitors will be accredited in the Rainbow Village. The registration along with distribution of the competition manuals takes place on the day of the event at the competition location from 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. - this counts for both the Olympic distance and the Sprint distance competitors. All competitors much register in person.

The competition manuals include the start number, a bathing cap, the transponder (which has to be worn on the left wrist), adhesive foils with start numbers (for bike, helmet and the clothing bags).

Bike park

The bikes must be brought to the bike park before 8:30 a.m. The bikes will be checked for full roadworthiness. The bike and clothing have to be deposited in the bike park. Up until the race start, clothing can be deposited there.

Transition area

Please note that only competitors and official helpers are allowed within the transition area.

Medical supply and water safety

During the competition Dr. Alois Schiessl and two paramedics will watch the athletes. Please check out the location of the medical tent, so you can find it in case of emergency. The Water Safety Lohhof will observe the swim course.

Liability and insurance

The Organiser and its helpers do not take liability for any accidents, theft and other cases of loss or damage. When you register it is understood that liability exclusion is accepted. The contracted insurances exclude all mutual liability of the competitors. We suggest thinking about taking out an additional private insurance. The competitors declare that they have the necessary endurance and physical health to take part at a triathlon competition. Insurance for all athletes is covered by the Bayerischen Landes- und Sportverband e.V., the Bavarian Sports Organisation.

Integration of disabled persons

Disabled athletes are welcome. But we have to point out that the running track is only a field path. Unfortunately we are unable to provide carers.

Toilet facilities

The locations of the toilet facilities are shown on the site plan. After the competition showers can be found in the buildings of the "Ruderregatta Facilities".

RULES

The competition underlies to the competition regulations such as legal order, the code of procedure and disciplinary order of the German Triathlon Union (sports order, organizer's order, federal league order, anti-doping order, judge's order). International races are carried out according to the rules of the umbrella organizations ITU and ETU. These can be contacted via the competition organizer and during the competition day. ROUTES

Swimming

The course takes place at the rowing competition basin and starts at the second block. Competitors of the Olympic distance have to enter the basin before 8.55 a.m. whilst sprint distance competitors have access until 11.55 a.m. Please pay attention to this schedule.

All participants have to pass the buoy on the left-hand side. Competitors will be penalised for crossing the buoys or swimming on the right-hand side of the buoys. The red buoy marks the return point (for Olympic distance after 750 metres, for sprint after 375 metres). At this point you should make a U-turn and swim back again to the access point of the basin. The water temperature is at about 20 degrees Celsius.

Cycling

Everyone in cycling section of the triathlon has to follow a marked loop course. One loop covers five kilometres in distance. Participants in the Olympic distance have to pass it eight times and Sprint competitors have to follow it four times. Loops are counted by means of a transponder. Competitors are not allowed to draft or take shelter behind another. Please assure you leave a distance of 10 metres to the next competitor. In order to avoid accidents, you should always stay on the right side of the track and use the left side only for overtaking.

Running

Running takes place next to the rowing competition basin. The loop course is at about five kilometres. You have to run it twice for Olympic distance and just once for the Sprint distance.

Aid Stations

Aid station units are situated at the cycling course and at the turning point of the running course. There you can get water, isotonic drinks, tea and fruit.
