Fencing

Fencing will be performed in the two types of weapon, Foil and Epee (we had to cancel the originally offered saber competition on 14th May due to too few registrations).

Fencers with a valid "sporting certificate" are entitled to take part. Both individual and team competitions will take place. The team competition is for mixed pairs (woman / man).

The competition will be organized following the rules of the mixed formula. This means there will be qualifying rounds, and following these direct elimination (with repechage) The best 16 participants compete in the finals. Those who are eliminated earlier will fence in the consolation round.

Those participants who wish to take part in the team competition, but do not already have a partner, will be allocated a partner by draw. A team consists in each case of two competitors, who will fence until 10 touches. The score will be taken over at five touches and ended at ten. The details of the method for the team competition will be made known at the start of the tournament.

For reasons of organization the number of participants is limited to 40 for each type of weapon. In the team competitions 30 pairs can take part per type of weapon. If the number of participants is smaller, the organization of the competition may be changed at short notice.

Fencers of at least 18 years of age are entitled to take part. Juniors must provide a health certificate, issued not more than 365 days previously (requirement of the DFB). For participants from Germany a "Sportpass" which is valid for 2004 is sufficient. Participants from other European countries must present their valid "sporting certificate" or the FIE License.

Equipment must satisfy the DFB guidelines.
