Peak, view to lake Kochelsee
Heimgartenhütte

Tour description

The Heimgarten offers a particularly spectacular panorama of the Bavarian highlands. On the one hand the green pastures, rolling hills and picturesque lakes (Lakes Walchen, Kochel and Starnberg...) and on the other hand a fantastic view of the Alps (Karwendel) with one peak after the next. A view that has to be seen to be believed!

After meeting and approx 1 hour train journey we get off at the Ohlstadt station and cross through this sleepy town, typical to Upper Bavaria. From here, our route takes us up through forests but every now and again we enjoy magical views. After about 1 ¼ hours we reach the private Bärenfleckhütte, where we take a break. Now the path leads us out of the forest and up the steep west ridge covered in mountain pines, to the summit of the Heimgarten (1.791 m). Just underneath the summit, we can enjoy a drink and an amazing view at the Heimgartenhütte (catered hut), nestled in the cliff.

Our return trip takes us down the west ridge and then after a short ascent we reach a neighbouring peak (the Rauheck 1.590 m). From here we follow the ridge down until we eventually reach Ohstadt and have great views of the valley on the way.

Once in the valley we will find a Biergarten to quench our thirst and rest our tired legs. We travel back to Munich with the train.
