Cheerleading: The house was brought down!   05/08/2004 4:44 pm

The Alabamahouse was packed out and all because the cheerleading competition was being held there with six competing teams, five from German and one from France. The winners, from Cologne, won with their original ABBA medley.

The Alabamhouse stage loudspeakers throbbed as the five cheerleading teams from Paris, Cologne, Stuttgart, Berlin and Münster, bopped around to the beats of electronica, rock or just plain old pop. The program demanded that the contestants not only provide a well choreographed display but also something with energy and acrobatic moves. The packed crowd were urged to ever greater cries of pleasure as they witnessed human pyramids being formed or team members being literaly thrown through the air. The only all ladies team came from Münster and sadly only achieved fifth place due to an unfortunate accident in the acrobatic section. The winners team came from Cologne, and little wonder considering that this is the home of the world famous carnival tradition. The team cheerled to music from ABBA whilst dressed in 70īs costumes including silver tops and black leather miniskirts. The "Berliner Jungs" achieved second place and therewith received the silver medal.
