EuroGames break all records! More than 5000 athletes have registered for the lesbian and gay multi-sports championships in Munich. Never before have the EuroGames been attended by so many participants from so many countries. Munich, 14th June 2004 - More than 6000 people have, by the close of the registration period, registered for the EuroGames 2004, which are taking place in Munich from 29th July until 1st August. The majority of them, around 5300, will be taking active part in over 200 competitive events, which are being organized for them in 26 different sports. The remaining participants have registered as volunteer helpers and private hosts. Never before in the history of the EuroGames have so many people showed so much enthusiasm for the lesbian and gay multi-sport championships. As expected, the largest number of participants will be coming from Germany. The Netherlands provide the second largest national contingent, followed by Great Britain, Switzerland, Denmark and France. But athletes have also registered from the Ukraine, Portugal and Estonia. This summer people from a total of 38 countries will be taking part in sports all around the Olympic Park. The cultural week (Kulturwoche) with films, theatre, concerts and parties begins as early as 24th July. The La Ola visitor's ticket costs 35 Euro. Included in this are the opening and closing ceremonies and the ticket for the local transportation system in Munich (MVV). The opening ceremony takes place at 8 pm on 29th July in the Olympic Hall. Stars such as Jimmy Somerville, Marla Glen, The Croonettes and Georgette Dee will ensure that everyone is in the right mood. The EuroGames are intended for sportswomen and sportsmen who actively support the integration of homosexuals in sport. Everyone is welcome to attend, regardless of background, sexual orientation, religious or political beliefs. In particular the participation of athletes with special needs is encouraged. The association "EuroGames München e.V." is the organizer of the EuroGames Munich. More than 250 volunteer helpers are active in nine project groups. They have largely been recruited from lesbian and gay sports clubs in Munich. The preparations are being coordinated by a nine-person board.
